Pianolessons

In my opinion an excellent technique is a prerequisite for both fine and naturally flowing pianoplaying and for the realization of a well-matched timbre (tone quality) and interpretation.

The development of a sustainable technique therefore features largely in my lessons. Much time is spent on the development of an effective hand position, consisting in a well-defined arch shape of the hand and visibly developed knuckles. To me this forms the basis of a properly functioning finger technique.

Since the fourth finger and the little finger derive extra stability from the underarm, which can be positioned ‘behind’  these fingers, the flexibiliy of the wrist also forms a recurring element in my lessons.

For arm weight play as well I consider strong but yet flexible fingers of the essence. By means of specific exercises for a phased relaxation of the arm weight, I work towards a dynamic interaction between weight and finger activity, which forms the basis for a truly beautiful and natural arm weight play.

By learning to approach the key in a variety of ways, ranging from a brief snap attack to a careful distribution of weight on several keys in a melodic line, a variety of emotional charges and timbres can be realized.

In this way I hope to contribute to the buid up of a well-equipped toolbox for the realization of all kinds of piano music.
